Well, at some point during my childhood, around 2008, I came across a thread on the Tibia forum where a guy was talking about how he had discovered an incredible game, something similar to Tibia, but that wasn’t Tibia or an OTServ. It had unique sprites, monsters, and a completely new and innovative gameplay and PvP system.

I visited the website to check it out and found something extremely new, different, and fun, without that madness of a map packed with players everywhere. There was also the promise that it would be everything Phobos never was, while offering for free all the content that Tibia charged a lot of money for. I was fascinated by everything I saw, especially the ability to sit down with your character.

Throughout all these years, countless hours of gameplay, thousands of people I met, so many stories, moments, events, fights, and everything else, in a completely alive and pulsating ecosystem, with people insanely passionate about this game called Zezenia.

But now, after so many years, seeing something that was part of practically my entire childhood, teenage years, and adult life in such a state of abandonment awakens a feeling of sadness, as if I were watching the slow death of a loved one up close, suffering and knowing they could die at any moment.

I believe many others share this same feeling.

Over the past few days, YouTube has recommended several war videos from 10, 12, 14, and 16 years ago. Watching those videos, remembering what the game was like when they were recorded, and then remembering what the game is like today only reinforces this feeling even more.

But, after all, what is the point of saying all this?

It is simply a desperate plea from someone who, just like many others, doesn’t want to see something that was such a huge part of their life, filled with glorious moments and incredible memories, simply disappear in such an insignificant way, as it is happening now.

Let Zezenia have the chance, at least once in its history, to be in the hands of someone who at least tried to make the game into something as great as it was meant to be. Someone who dedicates every moment of their existence to making sure that this game, which is so important to so many people, can survive, take its last breath, and who knows, maybe one day become what it was always meant to become.

From someone who, 17 years and 9 months ago, discovered what Zezenia Online is.

Thank you.

I truly feel that this game is in the hands of someone who sees it more as a hobby than the rare gem it actually is. Someone who doesn’t have the time—or perhaps the willingness—to make the game grow, yet would rather keep it locked in place and slowly watch it fade than see it entrusted to another staff that could bring fresh ideas, attract new players, and gradually invest in the layers that make this game special: its RPG depth and its PvP.

Unfortunately, the staff has become increasingly closed off, and those in charge seem unwilling to acknowledge the obvious: despite the latest updates, this game deserves so much more.

It has the foundation, the identity, and the potential to be something truly special. What it needs is someone willing to nurture that potential, not simply hold onto it. Watching that opportunity slowly disappear is honestly the most frustrating part.

I relate to you guys; I’ve been playing since the days when the Premium Card was yellow, and I have so many good memories of this game.
It’s really sad to see it like this.

The worst part of all this isn't even that the game isn't evolving. It's not that we don't get quarterly game updates. It's not that there's no work being done to improve balance.

It's that the game has been completely abandoned. The administration doesn't even give it 5 minutes a month. Do you get it? 5 minutes a month is too much for them. It's incredibly sad.

I totally don't understand why they don't just sell the game if they have zero time for it.

I’ve been playing Zezenia since around 2009, so I can relate to almost everything being said here. But after all these years, I think it’s important to separate nostalgia from the actual problems the game has today.

Nostalgia is definitely part of it. Many of us grew up with Zezenia. We remember the old wars, the people we met, the old maps, the community, the feeling of discovering something that was still small and different from other mmorpgs. Some of us literally spent our teenage years and part of our adult lives around this game. So naturally, seeing the current situation hurts more than simply seeing another game lose players.

But I don't think this is only about nostalgia. Zezenia still has something that many games don't:- something that makes it stand out. A quarterly update by itself wouldn't magically bring Zezenia back. What the game needs is a direction.

A game can survive without being constantly updated. What is much harder to survive is the feeling that nothing is going to happen. Players need something to look forward to.

New systems, balance changes, PvP incentives, events, community interaction, improvements to old content, whatever it may be. It doesn't necessarily have to be massive content every few months. Even a consistent communication would already change the perception considerably.

I also understand the argument that the game may simply be a hobby for the current administration. If that's the case, there's nothing inherently wrong with that. But then we have to be honest about the consequences. A hobby can be enough to maintain a game, but probably isn't enough to grow one.

And this is where I agree with the people suggesting that the game could be handed over or sold if the current owners no longer have the time or willingness to develop it. If someone else genuinely has the time, money and motivation to invest in Zezenia, why shouldn't that possibility at least be considered?

Obviously, selling the game isn't a magical solution either. A new owner could make everything worse. But keeping ownership while having no time to actively develop or communicate with the community isn't automatically better just because it preserves the status quo.

After almost two decades, I don't think most veteran players are asking for Zezenia to become a completely different game. Quite the opposite. I think many of us want the core of what made Zezenia special to remain intact while finally being given the attention and development it deserves.

There is still a base here. There is still a community. There are still people who care enough to write long posts about the game instead of simply uninstalling and forgetting about it.

That, in itself, is valuable.

Maybe the real question isn't whether Zezenia can become what it was in 2010-2015 again. It can't, and neither can the community.

The question is whether Zezenia can become something worth being excited about in 2026.

After playing for so many years, I believe it still can. What I feel is missing today is more than just maintenance. The game needs a clear direction, better communication with the community and someone with the time + ambition to actually move things forward.
