I understand the intention behind reducing experience gain to make progression feel more challenging, but in a system where levels and strength increase infinitely — and both damage and experience scale linearly — changing the XP rate doesn’t actually create real balance or difficulty.

In reality, all it does is shift the numerical scale. If before it took a month to reach level 100, and now players reach level 1,000 in the same time, the only difference is the size of the numbers. Comparatively, the player’s strength relative to enemies remains exactly the same — the balance of the game doesn’t change, only the values do.

Reducing experience gain just makes progression slower, not deeper. On the other hand, expanding the game by increasing the difficulty and complexity of new content provides a much better experience. It gives players new challenges, new goals, and a renewed sense of progression without taking away from what already exists.

From a gameplay and design perspective, it’s far more engaging to let players grow and face tougher, more rewarding content than to simply reduce the pace of growth.
