Hi all,
The other day, my guild mate got very lucky and found a cool hat with pretty nice stats. It is pretty close to the nice hat that colla drop, so I mentioned to the almighty B. that prices might go down. He claimed .2 higher was worthwhile and would make a noticeable difference. I have vague memories of testing shield vs. non shield hunting long ago and not noticing much difference, but, there has been a few updates, and he was pretty certain, saying things I've never heard before, like 'You are wrong' and 'Stop touching me there'. I thought I would take a crack at figuring it out, but I am running into what Zaza calls 'mental limitations'. Here's what I have so far, any comments or math advice appreciated. Let's start with the crapbag doing the testing: ![]() As you can see, stats for def 113, with 41 points in the fort talent. I picked a monster, non magic using, at random, and oddly enough it came up werebear. To set a base, I did 3 rounds naked (stop drooling Ako) and came up with the following numbers: 3 rounds at 46 hits per round (no puffs since I am naked: 6379 6486 6474 total dmg 144 hits 19339 The 'true dmg'; that is to say, to remove the 2.05 reduction I am getting from my fort talents (41 at .5 each) comes out to 19743. Thus, Avg dmg per hit (138hits) while zero armor and 113 in def skill: 143.06 I thought while I was here, I would see what an extra 14 points (the fort spell) would have on this, and see if I could get a 'dmg reduction per defense skill point guess' so I did the entire thing again, this time while running fortification spell. 3 rounds at 46 hits per round (no puffs) gave me: 6001 6431 6321 For a total of: 18753 Then, to put back in the dmg reduced by my talents, and I end up with 19145. Avg dmg per hit (138hits) while zero armor and 127 in def skill: 138.73 The difference in avg dmgs is 4.33, and with a 14 point difference in def skills, I am guessing that: 1 Point In Defense gives you roughly a .3 to .35 of a percent dmg reduction. (Quick reference; 1 point in fort talent gives .5) Now, I wanted to see what happens when armor points come into play. I loaded up with all sorts of borrowed gear (Thanks Zaza, Akolix, and Boxarn; everyone feel free to msg them for items! And to be thankful it is a Non-PvP server!) and tried the same thing, 3 rounds 46 hits, only this time, I counted the puffs, and wore this set: ![]() This set is worth 23.8 points of armor. The 3 rounds gave me: 3142 2473 2674 for a total of 8289, then with the talent point dmg reduction added back in, a final total of 8462.48. With 23.8 in armor, I took an average of 61.32 over the 138 hits and puffs. Then, I did the same again, wearing this set, worth 46.2 points in armor: ![]() This went well, the 3 rounds being: 768 1026 1054 For a total of 2848, then with the talent point dmg reduction added back in, a final total of 2907.6 With 46.2 in armor, I took an average of 21.06 over the 138 hits and puffs. And, this is where I am getting a little confused. It seems to me that there was a 70.89 percent 'savings' in the extra 22.4 points of armor I wore, and thus, 1 single point of armor reduces damage by 1.79 percent. This seems very high, if you battle a monster that, in your current armor, does 10,000 damage to you before you are able to kill it, you could save 179 points of damage to yourself during the battle by upgrading 1 armor point. I think I might be close with the skill points, as it is somewhat close to the talent point amount, but if anyone with more knowledge on game mechanics would like to add in, please feel free. Some notes: I choose non magic monster under the belief that magic dmg is not reduced by armor points. Although in the past I found that char attack dmg is (was? maybe has changed?) a combination of melee skill, weapon stat, and char lvl, I assumed that defense is merely armor stat and char stat; no lvl involved. Thanks to anyone who offers any insight. |

You are wrong in some thing that gonna change all ur calc. 0,5% (fortification) do not reduce damage. Read again the information. O.5% increasse on defense. The information said: defense nota defending, neither reduce damage. Thanks.

And even if fortification would reduce dmg .5*41 is 20.5 not 2.05. Rofl.

You shouldn't talk to Zaza about calculations/damages, he's not very good at it.
No offense Zaza, just saying HEUAHUEHAUSHU. |

Just to point out the first two tests were useless, your test wasn't long enough but it is the same damage received.
You can be 5 defense no for talent and no fort spell on and then 250 defense full fort talent and fort spell on and still take the same damage, as long as you are naked you will take the damage the same. |

Thanks for the comments!
Gap, thank you, I will recheck that. Bal, I figured that the .5 was actually .05 of a percent, just because 20.5 seems so high. I think maybe I should strip off all points before trying again. Dan, I didn't really understand your comment. I get that you think the test wasn't long enough, but this part: You can be 5 defense no for talent and no fort spell on and then 250 defense full fort talent and fort spell on and still take the same damage, as long as you are naked you will take the damage the same. As I mentioned above, I figured the base formula for attack dmg is (was) melee*weapon stat*char level. (To what amount each is weighed, no idea) Are you saying, for defense, I can have 5 defense, nothing in talents, not use spells, and be naked, and the damage I take in this state will be equal to the damage I take while 250 defense, full fort talents, and fort spell on while naked? So the entire idea of the dmg formula being something of defense skill * armor stat is off track? Also, to all again, any thoughts or comments on how much I save per increased armor point? Thanks! |

Lol hey now! I messed up on quick shot damage :P The others I said i was raising real mage damage and lowering ranger damage so there could be no argument ranger does more even if my numbers a little off. But yeah my math sucks u.u
I'll stick to my website and comic let u guys do things require brain power |

That's exactly what i mean, as long as you're naked your def and forti has no use for you. It all starts multiplying after you start wearing 1 single piece of defense and then you use your math et cetera to test things. |
