Go back to the NPC to which you received the shield from. If it is still an option he will ask if you want to trade the shield for a spell book or quiver. If you did not personally get the shield, the npc is in culthan ruins to the north east.

Well the only reason you was able to trade the shield in before was becasue mages and rangers was allowed to use the shield before. I think the curtsy of it is done and you are no longer able to trade them. Save up them demonic matters or get a char to lvl 200 and silver ores
